In 1986 it became clear that the primary goal of the so-called "film commissions" in North Texas was to act as a tour guide for producers seeking budget locations and services. Unfortunately, now as then the local production community seemed eager to promote and support this goal.

The Dallas Film Commission Task Force assembled by then Mayor Annette Straus determined that the best way to promote a sustainable film industry in the area was to seed the film commission with funding for use as supplemental financing for local productions. In return productions would be required to use local crews, local talent, local locations, and to share revenue on a contractual basis with the film commission. This model was used with great success to create the Canadian film industry. This finding was largely ignored by the local production community.

As an outgrowth of the efforts of the Dallas Film Commission Task Force several groups began to share information and resources on an ongoing basis. This informal sharing has continued in various forums since that time.

Originally the site was intended as a way to share resources that were available to North Texas filmmakers on a cooperative basis. Since that time many groups have come and gone and the site has expanded to include location information that was once difficult to find. The site has been revamped to reflect this broader focus.

Anyone from any corner of the world is welcome to post their information here and to use the site to search for other like-minded individuals in their area. We do reserve the right to purge distracting or disruptive listings at our discretion.
